Although there are many facts, studies, and articles about the history of lacrosse, the history of lacrosse has never been 100% understood. George Beers, a Canadian dentist, made lacrosse so popular that it was named a national sport in Canada! Lacrosse first became popular in Canada and then soon after caught on in the Northeast United States. Lacrosse was first a popular sport only in the northeast, before it spread to the south around 1903. The first lacrosse match between different countries was held in 1867 between Canada and the United States. This is what made lacrosse so popular in the United States. But then in 1956, Jim Brown, a lacrosse player from Syracuse, got people really excited about lacrosse when he scored six goals in a single game! USLacrosse noted, the National Collegiate Athletic Association eventually took over the directing of lacrosse, and the first NCAA Lacrosse Championship was held in 1971. With the support of the NCAA, lacrosse has become a modern version of the Indian tribal game.
